St. Paul's United Church of Christ
An Historic Church for God's People Today

Jesus said, "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another.  Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another." (John 13:34).  Therefore, our weekly worship begins at 10:30 a.m., not with a call to worship or a prelude, but rather with coffee, donuts, and fellowship with one another.  Please join us and experience the friendliness that is so typical at St. Paul's!

At 11 a.m., we move to our beautiful sanctuary for an hour-long service that is Biblically-based and tailored to help us encounter God in the midst of our contemporary lives.  To quote the United Church of Christ (our denominational family's) constitution,  "We look to the Word of God in the Scriptures, and to the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, to prosper our creative and redemptive work in the world. We claim as our own the faith of the historic Church expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed in the basic insights of the Protestant Reformers. And we affirm the responsibility of the Church in each generation to make this faith its own in reality of worship, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God."

We celebrate Holy Communion (the Lord's Supper) on the first Sunday of every month during our 11 a.m. service, and invite all followers of Jesus Christ, no matter what denomination or tradition, to join us.  In keeping with our emphasis on fellowship, we usually share the bread and grape juice with you in your seat, and then eat and drink together.

The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated as needed to welcome the children of God (of any age) into our midst.  If you are interested in being baptized, having your child baptized, or simply learning more, please speak with our pastor on Sunday morning.

Confirmation and the Reception of New Members are special rites in which teenagers and adults join our church in a covenant of love and service.  The pastor offers classes for persons interested in becoming members.  Please speak with him on Sunday morning to learn more.

Weddings and marriage vow renewal ceremonies can be scheduled by phoning the church office at (724) 342-2310.

Pastor David Williamson and Musician Emeritus Ann Malsom lead a lively worship service for the residents of Whispering Oaks on South Buhl Farm Drive the first Saturday of each month at 4 p.m.  Pastor Dave also leads worship at Orange Village in Masury on the second Sunday of each month at 2:30 p.m.  And Pastor Dave or Pastor Julia Williamson goes to The Ridgewood of Shenango Valley, a United Church of Christ-related assisted living community just down the hill from UPMC Farrell, every Tuesday afternoon at 3:45 p.m.

SPECIAL SERVICES

The season of Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 17.  Join us for worship at 7 p.m. as we commemorate the beginning of this holy season of reevaluating our relationship with Christ and with His children - all of humankind.  Although we don't actually place ashes on people's foreheads, we do join with Christians throughout the centuries in praying that God's Holy Spirit will cleanse our hearts and help us again put "first things first."

Following our morning worship on February 28th, join us for a different kind of worship experience.  We'll gather downstairs in Fellowship Hall at noon for lunch and the life-changing drama ministry of the Covenant Players, a traveling troupe of Christians who share the Gospel through plays and discussion.  This will be a very enjoyable time for the whole family!

The young men of the Order of DeMolay, a Masonic-related organization for teens, will celebrate their annual "Devotional Day" at St. Paul's on Sunday, March 14.  Some of the leaders of the local chapter, based in New Castle, will help lead the worship service and our pastor, an alumnus of the worldwide organization, will preach.  DeMolays and advisors who contact the pastor in advance will be his guests for a light lunch afterwards.

What was the original setting of The Lord's Supper (Holy Communion) and why does it matter?  Our Confirmation class will show us when they host an intergenerational Christian Passover seder on Sunday, March 21st, at 4 p.m.  They're preparing a traditional meal and ceremony for all of us to enjoy.  Tickets go on sale Feb. 28 and are limited.

These are just a few of the special opportunities for worship we offer here at St. Paul's.  Visit our calendar and watch the NEWS tab for information about upcoming events.
